Wohlford named Male Career Achievement Award winner
MEQUON, Wis. -- Concordia Wisconsin's Atheltic Department has announced that Garrett Wohlford of the Men's Lacrosse program has been named the 2018-19 Male Career Achievement Award winner.
The CUW Athletic Department released its top stories of the year over the past few weeks and this week will announce its four major award winners from the 2018-19 season. On Monday Ashley Solberg was announced as the Female Career Achievement Award winner, while the Female Athlete of the Year (Wednesday) and Male Athlete of the Year (Thursday) will be published the rest of the week.
Wohlford changed the way people look at Concordia Wisconsin's Men's Lacrosse program, helping them advance to the NCAA Division III Tournament this spring after winning the Midwest Lacrosse Conference Tournament. The goalkeeper was one of the best in the nation, ranking first in save percentage (.671) and second in goals-against average. His save percentage was the best of any division (I, II, III) in the country.
His efforts on the field gave him the distinction of being named IMCLA All-Region, MLC Defensive Player of the Year and All-MLC First Team four-straight year. He is the only player in MLC history to ever earn those honors every year. The Rochester, Minnesota native was also a USILA All-American this year.
Wohlford rewrote the CUW record books, ending his career with the program's game record for saves (21), owns nine of the top-10 game records for saves; leaves with the season record for saves (202), saves per game (10.82) and wins (15). He also graduated as the program's all-time leader in saves (737), saves per game (10.10), save percentage (.629) and wins (53).
