MEQUON, Wis. – Concordia Wisconsin is deeply saddened by the news of a deadly bus crash involving the Humboldt Broncos (SJHL) junior league hockey team on April 6. The bus was side-swiped by a semi-tractor heading to a playoff game, killing 16 members of the organization and injuring 13 more at an intersection in Armley, Saskatchewan.
“We were brought to tears when we heard of this tragic event,” Men’s Hockey head coach Jasen Wise said. “The loss of so many young hockey players causes our hearts to hurt and we mourn for the family members who lost loved ones and the community. This devastating accident has an impact on so many sports teams and organizations that travel by bus.”
“This is a difficult time for the hockey community,” Women’s Hockey head coach Steve Fabiilli said. “Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family members, friends and the Humboldt community who have to suffer through this heartbreaking tragedy.”
On April 12, family members and people of the community have asked the public to wear jerseys in support of the Humboldt Broncos organization. #HumboldtStrong
