SAINT PETER, Minn. – The Concordia Wisconsin men's hockey team excelled on the first test of finals week on Friday night. The Falcons rallied to defeat Gustavus Adolphus, 3-2. Concordia Wisconsin has won three straight games.
Neither team was able to find the back of the net in the first period on Friday night.
The Golden Gusties struck twice in the second period to take the lead into the third period.
The Falcons lit the lamp in the first minute of the third period when sophomore Derek Humphreys (Spokane, Wash.) scored off tic-tac-toe passes from sophomore Riley Klugerman (Aurora, Ontario) and freshman Jack Guvenal (Georgetown, Ontario).
Freshman Connor Van Wheelie (Mississauga, Ontario) tied the game in the final five minutes of the game when he sped through the left side of the zone and crashed the net to score.
Two minutes later, senior Garrett McArthur (McFarland, Wis.) called game with a goal from right in front of the net off assists from Riley Klugerman and junior Noah Roitman (Inver Grove Heights, Minn.).
The Golden Gusties had some quality chances with the extra skater, but freshman Cameron Hrdlicka (Calgary, Alberta) stood tall.
The Falcons held a 13-5 advantage in shots in the third period to cut into the Golden Gusties final advantage of 27-26.
CUW was able to kill off all three penalties.
Cameron Hrdilcka had 25 saves in the victory.
The Falcons look to extend the winning streak on Saturday afternoon at Gustavus Adolphus.
