2017-18 Stats of the Year

MEQUON, Wis. - The 2017-18 Athletics season came to a close in May and it was another outstanding year for the Falcons. The Athletic Communications department looked at some of the top numbers for this past year, recapping the outstanding season for Concordia Wisconsin. 

Acrobatics & Tumbling – 1 – The Pyramid Heat 3 (Open) was one of the best events for the Falcons throughout the season, and they were rewarded with the programs first-ever NCATA National Championships at-large bid for an event. Concordia Wisconsin was represented by Jacqueline Albino, Jordan Ireland, Jofflyn Zaremba and Anna Smith at the national meet.   

Baseball – 100 - Another milestone passed by manager Eddy Morgan, as he crossed the century mark for wins at Concordia Wisconsin in the Falcons 2-1 victory at Chapman on March 4. Morgan led the Falcons to 23 wins this season, bringing his five-year total at CUW to 122.

Men’s Basketball – .787 – A program record for the Falcons Men’s Basketball program, as they got to the charity stripe often in the 2017-2018 season. The Falcons shot 374 – 475 at the line while shooting 90 percent or better six times from the free throw line.

Women’s Basketball – 422- The Falcons dished out the most assists in program history this past season. CUW recorded over 20 assists in a game five times with a season high of 24 helpers coming in a game against Rockford back on December 16, 2017. 

Men’s Cross Country – 27:04 – Equals the time ran by Craig Reese in the NACC meet, which was good enough to finish third. The time paced the Falcons to a sixth place finish in the event and helped Reese land All-NACC honors.

Women’s Cross Country – 5 – The Falcons had their best run of the season during the NACC Championship where they had five runners in the top 12 that included Nora Imperl, Cassandra Sprotte, Adrianna Lubner, Martha Kulberg, Paulina Agnello. The five helped lead CUW to a fifth NACC crown in program history.

Dance - 82.83- The Falcons Dance team captured the first ever CIT Dance championship with a score of 82.83 which just edged out Concordia Ann Arbor. Dance also captured a Milwaukee Championship, helping highlight an impressive season.

Football – 99 – The yards gained in one play by the speedy return man Isaiah Tenette. Tenette took the opening kickoff of the 2017 season to the house, giving the Falcons an early lead. The return was the longest in program history.

Field Hockey – 1 – The Falcons have added another first in their short history, as Sam Dunn was the first All-Region Selection in program history. CUW also was able to record their first conference victory against Transylvania in a 1-0 victory back on October 15th.

Men’s Golf- 299- Sam Schlosser collected a number of accolades for the CUW Golf team including Player of the Year in the conference. Schlosser posted the lowest 72 hole score in program history with 299 in the NACC Championship shooting 71, 76, 81, and 71 the final day of the tournament.  

Women’s Golf – 18 – The Falcons needed to have their best day of the NACC tournament to come away with a championship and they did just that. Going into the final day of a three day event, CUW trailed Aurora by eight strokes, but recorded four scores of 91 or lower in the final round to turn the deficit into a 10 stroke victory, an 18-stroke turnaround.  The win was the fifth NACC Championship in program history. 

Men’s Hockey – 16 – Equals the most wins in program history for the Falcons, as they finished the season with a 16-9-2 record. CUW was also able to host its first ever playoff game against Lake Forest. The 16 wins included a 12-6 conference record.

Women’s Hockey – 43 – The number of career goals by Lexi Holman who stands alone at the top of the record books after passing the old mark of 36. Holman averaged 10.75 goals per year and fired 14 goals in her final season to claim the record. Christina Pattengale set a career record, as she holds the saves mark with 1,242. Pattengale will have another season to extend her record next winter.

ACHA Hockey – 6 – The inaugural season for the Division II club team saw Anthony Pickering explode for six goals in a game twice. Hitting the mark for the first time on November 11th against Dakota College, and then for the second time against Augustana College on December 2nd.  

Men’s Lacrosse - .619 – The most recent program record for the Falcons as they recorded a save percentage of .619 or 61.9 percent during the 2017-2018 season. CUW had a save percentage of 60 percent or better in 11 games with a high of 100 percent during a shutout win over Monmouth (seven saves).

Women’s Lacrosse – 6 - Senior Allison Kurek holds six major career records including points, goals, ground balls, draw controls, game-winning goals, and caused turnovers. Kurek ended her career with 253 points, 195 goals, 10 game-winning goals, 302 ground balls, 338 draw controls and 224 caused turnovers. The prolific Midfielder helper the team to a 9-2 MWLC record and a 10-7 overall record in 2018.      

Shooting- 1 – The Falcons have set the bar in their first season as an established program. CUW won their first National Championship in the Optic Rifle at the Scholastic Shooting Sports Foundation National competition. The team of Mikaela Leach, Andrew Handrich, and Grant Steinike won by less than a second in the Collegiate Open division.

Men’s Soccer – 3 – Equals the number of OT wins in NACC play which was crucial to their NACC Title run. The victories came against Benedictine, Wisconsin Lutheran, and MSOE. Cristian Tyrpak, Zach Gyuricza, and Luis Loya all were able to produce game winners in thrilling fashion for the Falcons, giving them momentum in the late stages of the season.   

Women’s Soccer – .797 – Tabitha Ortiz’s career Save Percentage which ranks her first in school history dating back to 2003. Ortiz only allowed 53 goals and recorded 208 saves, highlighted by three All-Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference selections during her four years.     

Softball – 400 – Steve Crook recorded his 400th win during his 19th season as the Falcons head coach. Crook has won an average of 21 games per year since taking the reins of the program and is the winningest coach in program history.

Men’s Tennis – 0 – Zero equals the number of losses that the Falcons had in conference play this year by posting an 8-0 record and also the number of games given up to Concordia Chicago back on April 7th when CUW won 9-0 against CUC but didn’t even allow the Cougars to win a game. They also won seven times by the score of 9-0 during the 2017-2018 season.

Women’s Tennis – 3 – The NACC dominance continues for the Women’s Tennis program, as they are back-to-back-to-back NACC tournament and regular season champions. The Falcons are 28-0 the last three seasons in conference play and have a combined 57-24 record which is good enough for a 70.3 winning percentage over the last three years.

Men’s Track & Field – 16 – Samual Spranger’s finish at NCAA Championship which he qualified for by setting a school record in the 400-meter dash in both the indoor and outdoor seasons. Spranger ran a time of 48.09 in the outdoor season and a 49.78 in the indoor season. He qualified for the national meet during the outdoor season.

Women’s Track and Field – 6 – CUW has captured six-straight pole vault titles at NACC Championships. The Falcons have won the last three indoor and outdoor titles in the pole vault thanks to Jennifer Miller, Taylor Corkum, and Nicole Larson. Corkum won it three times, while Larson won it twice and Miller doing it for the first time during this past outdoor season.

Triathlon – 3- The number of finishers at the USAT Collegiate Nationals competition. The Falcons saw finishes from Samantha Hoyt, Mary Karsten, and Meghan Klement, capping off a strong second season for the program. 

Men’s Volleyball – 1 – The Falcons kicked off their first season as a program and competed with tough competition throughout the year. CUW went up against eight nationally ranked opponents last season.

Women’s Volleyball - 28 – The magical season for the Falcons Volleyball team ended in the first round of the NCAA Tournament but not after recording 28 victories, the most in program history dating back to 1997. The Falcons finished the season with a 28-3 record.

Wrestling – 65 – Mitchell Slatton ended his career as a Falcon after notching 65 wins in four years which is tied for 16th in program history. Slatton won 23 matches during the 2017-18 season, finishing with a 23-16 record.
