#CUWStatsInfo: Women’s Tennis back in NACC Tournament

MEQUON, Wis. – The Concordia University Wisconsin women's tennis team holds an 8-2 record in the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference this season. The Falcons have just one match left against Marian University and have once again clinched a spot in the six-team NACC Tournament, slated for the spring season.

Since the NACC (formerly NAC) began a six-team tournament format in the 2010-2011 season CUW has qualified every year. The Falcons have earned no lower than a No. 3 seed, and are guaranteed at least the No. 4 spot in this year's tournament.

Despite their regular season success, the Falcons have failed to win a NACC Tournament, as Edgewood College has captured two titles (2011, 2013) and Wisconsin Lutheran College has one (2012). The Falcons have advanced to the semifinals each season, but have yet to reach the finals.

Below is a breakdown of the women's tennis team and their history in the NACC Tournament.

2010-11
The Falcons earned a three seed in the 2011 tournament after tying for the regular season title with a 10-1 record. CUW was on the short end of the tiebreaker as Edgewood gained the No. 1 seed and Benedictine University gained the No. 2 seed. CUW opened the tournament with a 5-0 win over No. 6 Dominican University, before falling to Benedictine, 5-3, in the semifinals. Edgewood went on to beat Benedictine in the finals, 5-1.

2011-12
CUW again shared the regular season conference championships as they tied with Wisconsin Lutheran and Edgewood, each team posting 10-1 league records. The Falcons got the No. 2 seed in the tournament, receiving a first round bye. In the semifinals CUW was ousted by Edgewood, 5-1. Wisconsin Lutheran went on to defeat Edgewood, 5-3, in the finals.

2012-13
The Falcons went 9-2 last year to earn the No. 3 seed in the conference tournament. They met No. 6 Aurora University in the opening round and swept the Spartans, 5-0. CUW was then eliminated in the semifinals for the third straight season, falling to Wisconsin Lutheran, 5-2. Edgewood defeated Wisconsin Lutheran, 5-2, in the championship match.

It won't be until the spring that we know how the CUW women's tennis team performs in this year's NAC Tournament. Edgewood looks like a lock for the No. 1 seed, while Aurora, the Falcons and Lakeland are battling for the No. 2 seed. Can CUW capture the No. 2 seed? Can the Falcons advance to the finals for the first time? Those questions are unanswered, but one certain is that CUW is a regular in the NACC Women's Tennis Tournament.
