Falotico selected as CUW Male Athlete of the Year

MEQUON, Wis. – The Concordia University Wisconsin Athletic Department has announced that Gavin Falotico of Men's Soccer and Track & Field has been named the 2015-16 CUW Male Athlete of the Year.

CUWFalcons.com released the four major awards for the 2015-16 season over the past several weeks. First the two Career Achievement Award Winners were announced, Carley Pfannerstill (Women's Soccer) and Diego Campos (Men's Soccer). Two weeks ago Nicole Larson (Women's Track & Field) was named Female Athlete of the Year.

Falotico (Palatine, Ill.) made his impact felt in two sports during his freshmen season, starting by helping lead the Men's Soccer program to its first-ever Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference title. The Falcons posted a 9-1 record during conference play and finished the season with a 15-3-1 overall mark.

Falotico was a key member of a defense that was dominant throughout the season. The Falcons posted a 0.77 goals against average for the season, which ranked 46th nationally. In addition, CUW allowed just four goals in 10 conference games and shut its opponent out 11 times overall.

For his efforts as a top defender, Falotico was chosen as the Co-Defensive Player of the Year in the NACC, as well as being named the league's Freshman of the Year. He was also selected to the First Team All-NACC and the All-NACC Freshmen Team. In addition, Falotico was one of three Falcons to be chosen as a NSCAA All-Region pick, landing on the second team.

Falotico carried his rookie year success into Track & Field, specifically the outdoor season and the javelin throw. He was competing in the event for the first time in his career this spring, and ended the year ranked 44th nationally. He competed in the javelin at six different meets and won the event three times, while posting a pair of second-place finishes.

Falotico won the javelin throw at the NACC Outdoor Championships in May, landing a toss of 55.84 meters. A couple weeks later he set a PR in the event at 56.62 meters. He also had success in the long jump and high jump, specifically at the NACC Championships, where he placed seventh in each event.

It was an impressive first year at Concordia University Wisconsin for Gavin Falotico. Not only did the rookie play a key role in a NACC title for Men's Soccer, but he also captured an individual championship in Track & Field in the spring. After the standout freshman campaign, Falotico is the 2015-16 CUW Male Athlete of the Year.
