CUW Soccer Teams run clinic for students of St. Martini Lutheran School
MEQUON, Wis. – On May 3 the Concordia University Wisconsin Men's and Women's Soccer teams put together a clinch for students from St. Martini Lutheran School in Milwaukee. Several Falcons players assisted throughout the day, providing drills and running scrimmages for the kids.
The idea started thanks to the Children (of God) in Action (CIA) program on campus and its previous relationship with St. Martini Lutheran School. CIA had previously been a part of the Angel Tree with St. Martini and provided gifts to the students at Christmas time.
Due to that relationship St. Martini approached the organization and Campus Ministry Assistant Darcy Paape earlier this year with a request for used soccer balls. The students had always enjoyed playing soccer, but had limited resources for equipment.
Paape then contacted head Men's Soccer coach Tom Saleska, as well as assistant coach John Saleska, and from there the idea of running a clinic for the students of St. Martini came about. The coaching staff knew it would be a great way to provide community service and continue a strong relationship with St. Martini.
Throughout the day over 150 students and family members had a chance to learn new soccer skills as well as play games against each other. Several of the students got to see the lake for the first time and got to spend a day playing a sport they love.
