Falcon weekend preview, seven teams in action during Family Weekend

MEQUON, Wis. – Some fall sport seasons are on the verge of wrapping up, while others are just hitting the midway point as Concordia University Wisconsin athletic teams will have a full weekend of competition ahead. Seven teams will be competing this weekend, four playing at home during Family Weekend.

Women's Golf will be competing in the three-day NACC Championship at Trappers Turn Golf Club in Wisconsin Dells, Wis. The Falcons, who won the conference title last season by an impressive 104 strokes, is the favorite heading into the 2013 event. CUW is averaging a 385.5 team score this season, which is 8.3 strokes better than the next closest team, Aurora University. The Falcons also have the top individual heading into the weekend in sophomore Nina Puch (Des Plaines, Ill.), as she is averaging an 84.0 during her 5.5 rounds of fall competition. Football begins NACC play with a home contest against Benedictine University. The Falcons went 1-2 in non-conference play, while Benedictine is the only team in the conference with two wins this season. CUW defeated the Eagles, 6-0, last year on the road and has won three of five matchups since joining the conference prior to the 2008 season. Volleyball will begin the weekend schedule Friday night with a conference matchup at Concordia University Chicago. The Falcons defeated CUC in the Concordia Invitational Tournament August 31, 3-0. CUW will follow Friday's match with another league contest Saturday at Benedictine, last year's conference tournament winner. Click here for match notes on the volleyball matches this weekend.

Men's Soccer will take on NACC-leading Benedictine University on Saturday afternoon at Fitting Field. The Falcons currently sit at 1-1-0 in conference play and a win over the league leaders would put them in the thick of the race for a NACC title. CUW is 5-0-1 in its last six meetings against Benedictine, including a 2-0 win in 2012. Click here for more information on the Falcons matchup against Benedictine.

Women's Soccer will follow the men's game and will also compete against Benedictine, marking the fourth CUW-BU matchup scheduled for Saturday. The Falcons have been rolling since conference play began two weeks ago, as they are 3-0-0 in league matches and haven't allowed a goal in any of the three victories. Women's Tennis wraps up its fall season with a non-conference matchup against Cornell College. The Falcons are 9-3 this fall, including a 9-2 mark in NACC play, which earned them the No. 3 seed in the spring conference tournament. Cornell brings a 3-7 record into Saturday and will also play MSOE in the morning before taking on the Falcons at 2 p.m.

Men's Golf will take part in the two-round MSOE Invitational beginning Sunday at the Grand Geneva Resort & Spa. The event will be the final tune up for CUW before the first two rounds of the NACC Championship, which are scheduled for Oct. 13 and 14.
