MEQUON, Wis. – The 2016-17 athletic year was another successful one for the Concordia University Wisconsin Falcons. As in years past, the Department of Athletic Communications tries to sort through all the great moments and give you, the fans, the top stories from the past year.

The list of stories was compiled by the Department of Athletic Communications and, like all lists is subject to debate. The top stories will be revealed over the next six weeks, with a story being released on Tuesdays and Thursdays. The top story will be released on June 22.

No. 2: A day of All-Americans

May 25 was a memorable day for Concordia University Wisconsin Athletics, likely the most memorable one during the 2016-17 athletics season.

Even though all but one of the countless number of athletes who donned the Falcons gear in 2016-17 had completed their seasons, CUW still had a day to remember. The one athlete who was still competing was Gavin Falotico, who landed All-American honors in the javelin throw. Later that night, Bryan Thomas of the Baseball program was named an All-American as well for his impressive play in 2017.

Falotico spent May 25 in Geneva, Ohio, the site of NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships. His event didn't start until later in the evening on a rainy day in Ohio. The sophomore entered the event as the 17th seed but launched a PR throw of 62.31 meters to finish seventh and earn the All-American Accolades.

Late in the evening, Thomas found out he was the first All-American in CUW Baseball history when the ABCA released the 2017 teams. Thomas, a First Team ABCA All-Midwest Region selection, landed Second Team All-American honors after leading the Falcons in batting average (.422) and RBIs (53).

An All-American selection is an exceptional feat and one that should be celebrated each time it occurs. For Concordia University Wisconsin, to celebrate two All-Americans in one day makes May 25, 2017, a day to remember, marking the No. 2 Story of the Year.
