Falcons Finish Fourth at Ripon

RIPON, Wis. – The Concordia Wisconsin men's track & field team started off the 2024-25 indoor season on Saturday morning at the Ripon Winter Open. As a team, the Blue and White collected 47 points to finish in fourth place. The Green Knights of St. Norbert galloped away with 173 points.

Sophomore Zach Wendland (Green Bay, Wis.) had an outstanding day at the high jump in second place at 1.90 meters. Sophomore Ben Wrenn (Good Hope, Ill.) was in sixth place at 1.70 meters and senior Jacob Couillard (Kingsford, Mich.) was seventh at 1.60 meters.

Junior John Kutner (Muskego, Wis.) collected third-place honors in the weight throw at 12.57 meters. Freshman Hayden Kettmann (Beecher, Ill.) was 10th at 9.22 meters.

Senior Jaden Schultz (Havana, Ill.) claimed the bronze medal in the mile run at 4:46.70.

In the 300-meter dash, Zach Wendland recorded a fourth-place time of 37.78. Freshman Kam'Ron Pierre (Santa Clarita, Calif.) picked up a point in eighth place at 39.02. Freshman Lucas Mathes (Brillion, Wis.) was in ninth place at 39.23, Josh Sipes secured a time of 39.70 in 11th place, leading a pack of Falcons after freshman Betzabel Acosta (Irving, Texas) was 12th at 39.82, freshman Dominic Ceballos (Milwaukee, Wis.) was 13th at 40.22 and freshman Brock Roseman (Pueblo, Colo.) was 14th at 40.84. Sophomore Luke Witte (Monroe, Mich.) recorded a 19th-place finish at 43.92 and senior Jacob Kundert (Neenah, Wis.) was 21st at 48.66. Wendling was also sixth in the pole vault at 2.90 meters.

In the triple jump, Lucas Mathes reached 12.22 meters in fourth place.

Hayden Kettmann led the Falcons' flock in the shot put at 11.96 meters in fifth place. CUW also had Jacob Couillard in 10th place at 10.62 meters, freshman Clayton Nichols (Oconomowoc, Wis.) in 11th place at 10.48 meters and John Kutner in 13th place at 10.42 meters.

Junior Brandon Donahue (Hubertus, Wis.) qualified for the finals in the 60-meter hurdles on Saturday and claimed sixth place at 9.28. Zach Wendland was ninth at 9.43 and Luke Witte was just behind in 10th place at 10.23.

In the 200-meter dash, freshman Victor Watson Jr. (Cypress, Texas) led the flock in ninth place at 24.59. Freshman Silas Bernardino (Daly City, Calif.) finished in 18th place at 26.86

Victor Watson was the fastest Falcon in the 60-meter dash on Saturday in 11th place at 7.40. In 14th place was Kam'Ron Pierre at 7.45. CUW also had Betzabel Acosta in 19th place at 7.51, Dominick Ceballos in 21st place at 7.65, sophomore Josh Sipes (Charleston, Ill.) in 24th place at 7.70, Brock Roseman in 25th place at 7.76, Jacob Kundert in 29th place at 8.02, Brandon Donahue in 30th place at 8.03, Luke Witte in 33rd place at 8.30 and Jacob Couillard in 36th place at 8.53.

CUW will have some time off and get back into action at North Central on Jan. 18 at the Pat Heenan Invite.
