Penalties Doom Falcons at Maryville

CHESTERFIELD, Mo. – The Concordia Wisconsin ACHA men's hockey team finished off a busy three-game weekend in Missouri on Sunday afternoon. The Saints were able to strike twice on a five-minute major penalty to secure the series split with a 4-3 overtime victory.

The Falcons started scoring at 8:33 left in the first period when senior Rex Staudacher (Yorkville, Ill.) found sophomore Chuck Emme (Glenview, Ill.) at the back door and redirected the puck into the net.

The Saints tied the game with a goal to start the second period.

Senior Tommy Cassel (Grafton, Wis.) gave the Falcons the lead again on the power play in the second period off assists from senior Andrew Malek (Milwaukee, Wis.) and Chuck Emme.

In the third period, freshman Rocco Cicirello (Mequon, Wis.) cut apart the Maryville defense and found senior Nick Roberts (Ding Dong, Texas) wide-open at the far post for the easy goal.

The Saints pressured the Concordia net throughout the third period, but junior Austin Bartell (New Berlin, Wis.) made some acrobatic plays to stop the puck.

Maryville took advantage of a late power play and tied the game with 2:15 remaining.

The Saints struck again on the five-minute major in overtime to split the weekend series.

The Saints held a 43-29 advantage in shots on Sunday.

Austin Bartell finished with 39 saves on the afternoon.

The Falcons finish the fall semester with a 16-7 record. Maryville improves to 14-3 with the victory.
