Pointers Escape on Thursday

MEQUON, Wis. – The final men's tennis match of the 2024 regular season came down to the wire on Thursday. The Pointers of Stevens Point rallied with a 5-4 victory to send the Falcons to 10-8 on the year.

The Falcons struck first on Thursday with freshman Renan Revite (São Bernardo do campo, Brazil) defeating Fredrick Diehl at No. 2 singles, 6-0, 6-1.

The Pointers leveled the match with a victory at No. 4 singles.

Junior Landon Sather (Fort Wayne, Ind.) secured a 6-2, 6-2 victory at No. 1 singles over Steven Benoy.

The Purple and Gold pulled ahead with victories on courts three and six.

Senior Isaac Bruins (Oak Creek, Wis.) topped Luca Hettstedt in a heated match at No. 5 singles, 7-2, 7-6 (9).

The Falcons reclaimed the lead with a quick 8-2 victory at No. 1 doubles with Landon Sather and senior Joshua Klement (Muskego, Wis.).

Stevens Point stuck back for the victory with two of the final points in doubles play.

The Falcons will host the Eagles of Edgewood in the NACC Tournament Quarterfinals on Tuesday.
