Falcons Journey Ends in the NCAA Tournament

ST. LOUIS, Mo. – The Concordia Wisconsin women's tennis team put up a ferocious battle in the first round of the NCAA Division III Tournament. The 20th-ranked Tigers of Sewanee advanced with a 5-0 victory.

Junior Peyton Morgan (Arlington Heights, Ill.) and senior Mia Andrae fell at No. 3 doubles, 8-1.

Freshman Sofia Buhr (Blumenau, Brazil) and senior Mallory Moen (Neenah, Wis.) came short at No. 2 doubles, 8-2.

The senior squad of Ricki Budewitz (Watertown, Wis.) and Ashley Samuta had a pair of deuce points go the way of the fifth-ranked doubles team in NCAA Division III and the Tigers escaped with the 8-6 victory. The duo of Budewitz and Samuta finish the year with a 26-3 record, including a 25-2 mark at No. 1 doubles.

The Tigers clinched the match with victories on courts six and three. Sewanee took the first set on five courts on Thursday. Ricki Budewitz was tied at five at No. 1 singles.

Thursday marked the end of the storied careers of Mia Andrae, Ricki Budewitz, Mallory Moen and Ashley Samuta.

The Falcons finish the season with a record of 21-7. The results tie the program record that was set in the 2015-16 season.

The Blue and White posted a perfect 9-0 record in the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference and secured the NACC Tournament title with victories over St. Norbert and Edgewood.
