Rainbow 6 Siege Wins National Championship

MEQUON, Wis. – The CUW esports team competed in the NECC Challengers Division National Championship on Monday and took home the trophy with a 3-1 defeat of Fanshawe. This is the first National Championship in CUW Esports history. It is also the first Esports National Championship to be won by any college in the state of Wisconsin.

The Falcons started the series out hot. They won map one with a score of 7-3 and took the lead in the series.

Map two saw Fanshawe step up their game as they took advantage of some mistakes that CUW made and ended up evening the series 1-1 with a 7-3 win of their own. Map three was the most pivotal part of the series. Fanshawe was able to work themselves to a 6-3 lead, putting themselves one round away from winning the map and moving to a 2-1 series lead. However, the Blue and White found another level with their backs against the wall and won three straight series to force overtime. After dropping a round, they won two straight to win the map and take the 2-1 series lead. CUW closed the fourth map out without much resistance in a 7-2 fashion. Then the celebration began.

Head coach Lewis Smith had this to say about the victory, "I'm just so proud of the team and happy for those 5. This has been in the making since we did tryouts over the Summer in August. And after falling short in both of our conference tournaments, they continued to work hard and kept the faith that we could still end the season with a Championship."

The Rainbow 6 Siege team includes Caden Perry, Sean Sullivan, Austin Lichtenstein, Josh Imlah, Joey McIntyre, and Jake Brennan. Sullivan led the Falcons with 48 total eliminations.

The Falcons look toward next season with a championship victory under their young belt.
