Playoff Action Continues for Esports

MEQUON, Wis. – As the weeks progress, CUW esports continue their run for title championships in both the NECC and META Leagues.

Some teams have already finished their playoff run. One of those teams is the META Smash team. On Tuesday, the META team took on Texas-San Antonio in a battle to advance to the championship. The Falcons dropped game one with a score of 0-2. After a quick pep talk coach Lewis Smith, the Falcons were ready to get back in the game. The Falcons took game two with a score of 0-1. In the win-or-go-home game, the Falcons went down early. However, they weren't done yet. Sophomore Angel Uriostegui (Round Lake, Ill.) picked up seven clutch eliminations to put the Falcons back up with two eliminations left. In the final matchup, Texas-San Antonio pulled out some tricks from their bag and snatched the victory over the Falcons. In the third-place matchup, the Falcons had their two teams pitted against one another for the third and fourth spots.

In the NECC quarterfinals, the Rocket League team faced off against the CUW esports biggest rival: Concordia Nebraska. After a quick 3-0 matchup victory, the Falcons moved on to the semifinal matchup.

The Falcons were led by senior Austin Esterly (Lombard, Ill.) netting five goals and making 10 saves with 15 shots.

In the META League third-place matchup, the Overwatch team took on Sacred Heart. After a 0-3 loss that saw scores of 1-2, 4-5, and 0-2, the Falcons took fourth place in the META League Overwatch tournament.

Coach Wahl had this to say after the loss, "We definitely tried out best, but we aren't too worried about this outcome. We were drastically unfavored, so we made sure to perform better than we did in our last meeting, and we accomplished that. Now we can focus on NECC."

The Falcons get back to overwatch action on Thursday in the NECC Semifinals.

The last team that started their playoff run on Wednesday was the Rainbow 6 Siege team. In their quarterfinal matchup, the Falcons took on Baker in a week five rematch. Baker was one of the few teams to take a victory from the falcon Rainbow 6 Siege team early in the year. The Falcons got their revenge when they posted a 2-0 victory with game scores of 7-4 and 7-5. The Falcons move on to the semifinal matchup next week.
