Rocket League Claims NECC Championship

MEQUON, Wis. – The CUW Rocket League team competed in the National Esports Collegiate Conference finals on Tuesday night.

The four-player team of senior Austin Esterly (Lombard, Ill.), junior Aaron Huntley (Green Bay, Wis.), and sophomores Evan Moody (Milwaukee, Wis.) and Zach Mulso (North Saint Paul, Minn.) looked to complete their perfect season with a win in the finals.

The Falcons took on Missouri Baptist in this best of seven matchup featuring two teams that hadn't met in the regular season.

The Falcons came out hot in the first game with a 5-2 victory over Missouri Baptist.  Esterly snagged one goal and one assist with both Moody and Huntley netting two goals apiece.  The team of three combined for 14 shots in the game.

Game two was a lot of the same with the Falcons taking the 4-1 victory.  Esterly led the offense for the Falcons with three goals and two saves.  Huntley added the fourth goal as well as a save.

Missouri Baptist was only allowed to score these three goals with the Falcons claiming the shutout victories in the last two games taking the four-game sweep in the finals.  The last two games saw scores of 6-0 and 4-0 with Esterly netting five of the ten Falcon goals.  In game four, Mulso got subbed in to take in some of the finals action.  He secured one goal and four saves in his postseason debut.

The Falcons were a perfect 3-0 in the playoffs with a 10-0 game record.  In the regular season, the Falcons went 8-0 with a 24-3 game record.

"We had 1 goal when this season started and this new team accomplished it," Said Head Coach Lewis Smith.  "So proud of these guys. They put a ton of work into this season and beat every single opponent that came in their way. Perfection."

The Falcons still aren't done as they look forward to the spring season and another round of battles coming their way.
