Overwatch Season Recap

By Joshua Klausmeier

The CUW Esports Overwatch team gave it their all during their regular season. The regular season saw strong runs, rivalries, and big upsets all in the matter of 8 weeks. They finished the regular season with a 6-2 record but could not reach their championship goal as they got knocked out in the first round of the playoffs.

The team consisted of Nick Adelmund as the team captain, Caleb Dunst, Joel Roth, Tanner Berghaus, Margaret Vesey, Rebecca Gehm, Andrew Semenak, and Overwatch coach Andrew Wahl.

Their season revolved around their spot in the Emergents Cyan Division in the National Esports Collegiate Conference (NECC). The team started the season going 1-1, but then went on an astonishing 5-game winning streak before dropping the last game of the season to finish 6-3 and as the 3 seed in playoffs. Oddly enough, both losses came against fellow Wisconsin schools in Carroll and Marian. CUW had to go against Carroll again in the Quarterfinals, a matchup that they ended up losing, ending their season right there.

The Overwatch team did bump up a division from last year's season, nodding to how this team has improved. Although this team did not make the playoffs after a great regular season, they had 4 first-year players that proved themselves and proved to the other teams in the NECC that they will come back next year with strength, fighting for their long-overdue championship.
