Esports Hits Rough Patch in Challenging Matchups

MEQUON, Wis. – The CUW esports team hit some bumps in a week that saw them face some high-caliber opponents.

The second half of the week saw the Overwatch team take on Fresno State.  "Fresno State is a great team," said Head Coach Lewis Smith, "This is a level that the Falcons are trying to work toward, so it was some great competition to face and to see in action."  The Overwatch team put up a fight and ended up taking a game in the best of three matchup.

The Fortnite team took on the PlayVS Solos league where they all play individually to rank among the total players.  The team had some ups and downs in a matchup that would see 10 top-10 finishes and five top-five finishes.  The Falcons learned from their fumbles and look forward to next week to pick back up at a high level.

The Valorant team faced some of the "new team" growing pains as they took on a well-established program in Simon Frasier University.  The Falcons dropped two games in the matchup with final scores of 3-13 and 3-13.  The squad was led in eliminations by sophomore Adam Hedman (Fond du Lac, Wis.) with 16 and in assists by Sam Boehlke, a sophomore from Mequon, Wisconsin, with seven.

The League of Legends team took a punch from Bryan University in a matchup that saw a 0-2 final score.  This would more their season tally to 1-1 on the year.  The Falcons were led in assists by senior Jonah Fowle (Menominee Falls, Wis.) with 22 and in eliminations by Joseph Buhler (Fort Worth, Texas) with 14.

Looking toward the upcoming week, the Falcons look to bounce back with some solid matchups slated for their squads.  Starting off the week is the, still undefeated, Rocket League team.  As the season progresses, the number of undefeated teams start to dwindle.  The Rocket League team looks to keep their status atop the league when they take on Texas A&M.

Fresh off of a bye week, the Rainbow 6 Siege team looks to pick up where they left off (sweeping back to back opponents) against Murray State.

After coming off of their first loss of the season, the new League of Legends team is making some roster adjustments to have the best chance at redeeming themselves with their eyes still on a title when they face off with Arcadia on Friday night.
