Esports Bounces Back After Tough Week

MEQUON, Wis. – The CUW esports team hit a rough patch in their last week of competition, but bounced back in a huge way, sweeping the first half of competition in this young week.

The first to compete was the Rocket League Team.  This squad was undefeated going into Monday, and came out the same with a 3-0 sweep of Texas A&M.  The Falcons held A&M to just three goals while finding the back of the net 16 times themselves over the three-game matchup.  Senior Austin Esterly (Lombard, Ill.) came up big for the Falcons posting five goals in a final game that would see a 6-2 victory.  "The scary part is that we are sweeping every team, but are still just finding our stride," said Esterly.  The Rocket League teem remains a perfect 15-0 in the META League on the season.  In their NECC League on Tuesday, the Falcons posted another 3-0 sweep over Upper Iowa.  The games saw 4-1, 4-1, and 8-1 final scores with 16 more goals on the week.  Evan Moody, a sophomore for Milwaukee, Wisconsin, claimed six of those goals to help boost the Falcons to 4-0 on the NECC season.

The Valorant team snapped back after last week's 0-2 loss with a commanding 2-0 victory over Wisconsin-Eau Claire.  The games saw scores of 13-6 both times with a total of 156 Falcon eliminations.  Sophomore Adam Hedman (Fond du Lac, Wis.) led the Falcons with 41 of his own.  Head Coach Lewis Smith was proud of the team effort, and said that, "We were very coordinated and executed well."

In the Fortnite PlayVS Trio playoffs, The Falcon trio of sophomore Steven Pieroni (Danvers, Mass.), junior Colby Williams (Myrtle Beach, S.C.), and sophomore Anthony Garron (Danvers, Mass.) qualified for the finals, claiming the eighth spot out of 16 available.  The Falcon trio finished 13th, 17th, third, eighth, and fifth in their five qualifying games with 16 total eliminations.

Another team that is boasting an undefeated record is the Super Smash Bros team.  The squad put up another 2-0, shut-out victory over Fairfield University to bring their season record to a perfect 5-0 with a 10-0 record in games.  Junior De'Shawn Ford (Gardena, Calif) led the Falcon effort with 11 of the Falcon 19 eliminations.  Ford was happy with how his team performed when he said, "Felt good to be pushed further as a team tonight and we are still performing well."
