Esports Welcomes a New Coach

Esports Welcomes a New Coach

By: Erik Arvis

MEQUON, Wis. - The Concordia University Wisconsin Esports team is excited to welcome and announce the arrival of a new coach for the Valorant team, Coach Jack Slater! The entire program will benefit from this addition, but this one is especially massive for the newly formed Valorant team that is currently in their first competitive season as a varsity title.

Coach Slater comes in ready to make an immediate impact by first enhancing the knowledge of the game for each of the players by perfecting a tactical approach to every map they compete on. With this in mind, he aims to build off of the team's initial success and add more tactical maneuvers to make sure the team can thrive in any map and in any situation. The team has already shown that they work well together, and with the new addition to the new team, they will surely achieve great things this season.

Coach Slater has hit the ground running, already meeting the entire team reviewing previous matches. "Honestly I am just inspired by this team's motivation and commitment to being the best version of themselves," Coach Slater says. "This team does not act or play like a new team, so I feel like we are already way ahead of the game." Coach Slater knows that from Day 1, the goal is to win championships, while constantly focusing on individual improvement.

Before joining the CUW Esports team, Coach Jack had a professional esports career of his own as a Counter-Strike player, a game similar to Valorant. He started playing at around age 14 and was a reserve player for a semi-pro Counter-Strike: Source team by 15. At 17 years old, he was playing in professional tournaments, and spent 3 years in the top global rankings as an in-game leader, focusing on strategy calling. Not only does this provide the team with a highly experienced player to learn from, but also a coach who deeply understands what it takes to compete at the highest level while still a student.

This season, and those following, are sure to be successful under the direction of such a knowledgeable and motivated person as Coach Slater. Welcome to CUW Esports!
