Falcons Call of Duty Squad Snags First Big-Ten Victory

MEQUON, Wis. – The CUW esports team snagged a big victory Monday night with a victory over a ranked, Big-10 opponent in Purdue.

The Boilermakers went 17-1 last year and were ranked 17th in the nation going into Monday night's matchup.

In the best of five matchup, the Boilermakers started hot taking the first two games.

The Falcons took a deep breath and pulled off the reverse sweep with three straight game wins to take the matchup 3-2. Each of the last three Falcon victories came in close fashion and down to the wire.

In the first two game modes, hardpoint, teams battle "king of the hill" style and push to get 250 points.

The Falcons took two of those game modes with scores of 250-236 and 250-237. In the last game mode, search and destroy, teams race in a "best of 11" style to destroy targets. The Falcons and the Boilermakers fought till the last map where the Falcons pulled off the upset with a game score of 6-5.

Sophomore Sean Hofstetter (Columbia, Ill.) led the Falcons with 117 eliminations. He also led the Falcons with an elimination to death ratio of 1.63 on the night.

"That was the best Call of Duty I have ever seen us play" Said Head Coach Lewis Smith. "The squad was locked in and motivated to make a huge statement in this league, and we did just that."

The Falcons look to kick off more titles in the coming weeks.
