Esports Hits Speedbumps

MEQUON, Wis. – The CUW esports team took on the second week of playoffs, and saw a couple of speedbumps along the way.

In the NECC Semifinals, the Rainbow 6 Siege team took on Western Colorado. The Falcons fell with game scores of 7-8 and 4-7. Head Coach Lewis Smith had this to say after the matchup, "There were a lot of ups and downs in this season and we just weren't able to overcome all of them. Our team fought hard, but it just wasn't enough. We have room to grow before Nationals to redeem ourselves." The Falcons will compete in Nationals coming up in May.

In a battle of the Concordias, The Smash team saw a familiar opponent. In fact, they were sitting side by side. Smash one and two went head to head in a META League matchup. Team one came out victorious with scores of 2-0 and 3-0. Senior Kurtis Polodna (North Prarie, Wis.) led the Falcons with 10 eliminations. Junior, captain De'Shawn Ford (Gardena, Calif.) had this to say after the battle, "It is always fun to play our own guys with something extra on the line. We bring out the best in each other."

In a NECC Semifinal matchup, the undefeated Overwatch team stared a hungry Carthage squad in the face.

After a game one victory with a score of 2-1, the Firebird shocked the Falcons with three-straight victories to claim the matchup. Carthage ended the Falcon's perfect season and hopes at the championship with a stunning performance in a pair of Hybrid game modes and a Payload mode. The Overwatch team shifts its focus toward Nationals in May.

The Falcons continue to look forward to both the rest of the playoffs as well as Nationals in the next few weeks.
