Falcon Baseball Put Together a Solid Season

MEQUON, Wis. – The CUW baseball team pushed deep into the NACC tournament on their stellar season. 

The Falcons thrived in a hitter's conference tallying 36 home runs on the season with 320 runs batted in.  the team had a batting average of .323 with junior Sam Beers (Janesville, Wis.) hitting at an extraordinary .442. 

The Falcons pitching also worked hard with a team total ERA of 5.29 with 257 strikeouts.  Falcons' ace Tyler Drezek (West Allis, Wis.) led the NACC in strikeouts with 73 as well as came in second for both wins at 7 and ERA at 2.88.  Junior Beau Wills (Coal City, Ill.) led the Falcons relievers with 4 saves which also brought him to tied for second in the NACC.

The Falcons ended the season on a six-game home win streak that saw both low scoring, close games of 4-3 and 3-1 as well as high scoring games in 25-13 and 13-3.

Two Falcons in Sam Beers and Blake Gosswein (Barrington, Ill.) landed on the NCAA Division III All-Region Team as voted on by the American Baseball Coaches Association.  Beers was also named the NACC North Division Co-Position Player of the Year and earned All-NACC North Division honors.  Gosswein earned Midwest All-Region Third Team honors in the outfield. He was also named an All-NACC North Division selection.

On top of that, Sam Beers was selected for the honor of All-American from the American Baseball Coaches Association and D3Baseball.com.  Beers posted an outstanding season at the plate this year and boasted the 27th-best batting average in NCAA Division III at .442. He also smacked 69 hits on the season, which is the 14th best mark in NCAA Division III.  Beers was the recipient of the title of the CUW Male Athlete of the Year for the 2020-21 season.

The Falcons look to push further in the NACC tournament when they come back in the 2021-22 season.
