Seventh-ranked Spartans sink CUW

MEQUON, Wis. – The CUW baseball team battled the seventh-ranked team in the country and rallied back to tie the game but fell short with an 11-7 to fall to 9-5 on Wednesday.

The Spartans tacked on six runs in the top of the first inning to strike first on Wednesday afternoon.

The Falcons did not fold and began the comeback in the bottom of the first inning. Junior Kyle Kosobucki (De Pere, Wis.) singled through the right side of the infield to score junior Johannes Haakenson (Janesville, Wis.). Senior Blake Gosswein (Barrington, Ill.) then scored junior Sam Beers (Janesville, Wis.) on a single to the shortstop.

Sam Beers blasted a shot to the wall in the second inning that scored Johannes Haakenson on a triple.

The Blue and White tied the game with three runs in the fourth inning.

Sam Beers started the scoring with a triple to center field that scored Haakenson.

Junior Sean Tillmon (Plainfield, Ill.) was able to get Beers across home plate with a shot to shortstop.

Senior Sam Zarling (West Bend, Wis.) tied the game with a blast over the left-field fence.

The Spartans reclaimed the lead with four runs in the sixth inning and one more run in the eighth inning.

CUW did not go down without a fight and scored the final run of the game with a double down the left-field line to score Sean Tillmon.

Sam Beers finished with a game-high three hits.

The Falcons return to action on Saturday in the NACC opener at Marian.
