Baseball Capsizes Carthage

MEQUON, Wis. – The Falcons came out on top of the battle of the shores of Lake Michigan on Wednesday night with a 3-1 victory over Carthage.

Defense reigned supreme at the start of the game, with both pitching staffs keeping the bats cooled off.

Junior Sam Beers (Janesville, Wis.) started the scoring in the sixth inning with a blast over the left-field fence.

Later in the sixth inning, junior Kyle Kosobucki (De Pere, Wis.) scored junior Sean Tillmon (Plainfield, Ill.) on a single to left field.

Sam Beers struck again in the seventh inning with a single to right field that scored junior Daniel Hahn (Cudahy, Wis.).

The Firebirds scored their lone run on a sacrifice fly in the eighth inning.

Junior Beau Wills (Coal City, Ill.) closed the door on the Firebirds and collected his third save with three strikeouts in two innings pitched.

Junior Zack Swift (Longwood, Fla.) earned the victory on Wednesday and finished with a strikeout.

Sam Beers, Kyle Kosobucki, senior Blake Gosswein (Barrington, Ill.) and Daniel Hahn all finished with two hits.

The Falcons return to NACC action on Saturday at Lakeland.
