Baseball sacks Augsburg at U.S. Bank Stadium

MINNEAPOLIS – The CUW baseball team played at U.S. Bank Stadium, the home of the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday evening. The Falcons swept Augsburg, 13-0, 6-3, to improve to 4-1 on the young season.

Senior Sam Zarling started the scoring in the second inning with a double that cleared the bases, scoring senior Blake Gosswein, junior Johannes Haakenson and senior Drew Johnson.

The Falcons scored five more runs in the third inning with the help of a double from Johannes Haakenson, a ground out by Sam Zarling and a single up the middle of the infield by sophomore Cole Aguirre.

In the fourth inning, Haakenson scored junior Sean Tillmon on a single and Gosswein was able to get junior Kyle Kosobucki across home plate.

Drew Johnson hit a single into the gap in left field in the fifth inning to score junior Daniel Hahn. Junior Sam Beers also scored on a sacrifice fly from Haakenson.

Junior Zack Swift wrapped up the scoring in game one with a single that scored Sean Tillmon.

Sophomore Tyler Drezak earned the victory with four strikeouts.

The Auggies struck first in the top of the first inning with a pair of runs.

The Falcons responded with four runs in the second inning. Sean Tillmon tripled to left-center to empty the bases of Sam Beers, Daniel Hahn and junior Jared Chesak.

Kyle Kosobucki then doubled down the right-field line to score Tillmon.

Augsburg cut into the lead with a run in the fourth inning, but Sam Beers put the final nail in the coffin with a home run to center field that also scored Daniel Hahn.

Senior Bradlee Sumner picked up the victory in the circle and had one strikeout. Junior Beau Wills pitched two innings in relief.

The Falcons will fly south on Wednesday to Illinois Tech.
