Sabres Sweep Baseball

MEQUON, Wis.- The Falcons were able to strike first as junior Kyle Kosobucki (De Pere, Wis.) would single to the left side in the top of the first, sending in junior Johannes Haakenson (Janesville, Wis.) and junior Sean Tillmon (Plainfield, Ill.).

Senior Blake Gosswein (Barrington, Ill.) had a sacrifice fly out to right field, sending in Beers for a 3-0 lead heading into the second.

In the second inning, junior Sam Beers (Janesville, Wis.) doubled to right center, sending in Haakenson and Tillmon.

In the top of the fourth, Beers would fire a blast center field for a homerun, making the Falcons lead 6-0.

The Falcons had a lot of confidence going into the bottom of the fourth inning, but the Sabres were able to homer out to left field, sending in two runs to close the gap 6-2.

Tillmon would get an RBI in the top of the fifth to send in Gosswein, but the Falcons weren't done yet.

Concordia would get rowdy in the sixth inning with another homerun from Beers.

Gosswein would single up the middle, sending in Kosobucki.

Senior Sam Zarling (West Bend, Wis.) would send the ball out to right field, allowing junior Jared Chesak (West Bend, Wis.) to score.

The Falcons headed to the bottom of the sixth inning with a 10-2 lead over the Sabres.

Marian was able to light it up on the field with a series of runs in the bottom of the sixth to close the Falcons lead to 10-8.

In the top of the seventh, Chesak would single to left field for an RBI to Beers. That would be the Falcons last run across home plate.

Marian was able to put a run away in the bottom of the seventh and three in the bottom of the ninth to win the first game.

Starting on the mound for the Falcons was junior Ryan Green (Green Bay, Wis.). He faced 28 batters. Following him were freshman Connor Krauseneck (Saginaw, Mich.), junior Zack Swift (Longwood, Fla.), and junior Beau Wills (Coal City, Ill.).

The second game would start shortly after, and the Falcons were hoping to keep the flame going as Haakenson was able to score on a wild pitch in the top of the first.

The Falcons wouldn't see another run until the top of the third with a run by Tillmon and Haakenson. The Falcons would head into the fourth inning trailing the Sabres 5-3.

The Sabres were able to go on a series of runs in the fourth, fifth, and seventh innings to seal the deal, and the series, with a 13-3 victory over the Blue and White.

The Falcons will play at home vs Edgewood for a doubleheader starting at 12 PM on Saturday April 17.
