Baseball Battled Until the End

MEQUON, Wis. – The Falcons battled until the very end against the 10th-ranked Spartans of Aurora in the NACC Championship Series on Saturday afternoon. The Spartans took game two, 13-5, to take the series, 2-0.

The Spartans jumped out to a substantial lead with six runs in the fifth inning and four more in the sixth.

The Falcons refused to surrender and fought off the run-rule with two runs in the seventh inning.

Senior Sam Zarling (West Bend, Wis.) started the scoring with a double into the gap in right-center field to score freshman Connor Krauseneck (Saginaw, Mich.).

Junior Johannes Haakenson (Janesville, Wis.) then scored senior Drew Johnson (Menasha, Wis.) on a sacrifice fly.

The Spartans pushed the mercy rule threat on again with two runs in the eighth inning.

Drew Johnson forced the ninth inning with a single to right field that crossed senior Blake Gosswein (Barrington, Ill.) across the plate. Johnson later scored on a wild pitch.

Junior Sam Beers (Janesville, Wis.) ended the scoring with a home run to left field in the ninth inning.

Sam Beers led the flock with three hits on Saturday. Blake Gosswein and Drew Johnson finished with two apiece.

The Falcons finish the year with a 25-17 record. The 25 wins ties the second-most in a single season for the Blue and White.
