The Falcons Feast on the Fish

MEQUON, Wis. - The Falcons battled with the Muskies on Sunday afternoon at Kapco Park for a two-game series.

It was a hot day in Mequon, and a hot day for the batters!

The Falcons struck first with a sacrifice fly from junior Kyle Kosobucki (De Pere, WIs.), but he was able to bring in junior Johannes Haakenson (Janesville, Wis.).

Lakeland would bring in four runs in the top of the second to take the lead.

The Falcons would shrug it off and add eight runs in the bottom of the second. Senior Sam Zarling (West Bend, Wis.) would start it off single up the middle to send senior Drew Johnson (Menasha, Wis.) home.

Haakenson would double, sending junior Daniel Hahn (Cudahy, Wis.) home.

Senior Blake Gosswein (Barrington, Ill.) would double to shortstop to send Haakenson and Zarling home.

Finally, Johnson would see the plate again in the second and send junior Jared Chesak (West Bend, Wis.), junior Tristian Largent (Verona, Wis.), and junior Sean Tillmon(Plainfield, Ill.) home.

The Blue and White would have two more runs come across home plate in the bottom of the third with an unearned run from Largent, and another unearned run from Chesak.

 The Muskies would bring in two runs at the top of the fourth to close the Falcon lead 11-6.

Concordia would double the Muskies run with a two-run RBI from freshman Brooks Kalscheur (Middleton, Wis.) to send Chesak and Largent home.

Zarling would reach first on a fielding error with Kalscheur and Johnson to score unearned.

The fish would score three runs in the top of the fifth.

The Falcons scored a total of nine runs in the bottom of the fifth. RBIs came from Gosswein twice, Largent twice, Chesak, Zarling, and Haakenson, to increase the lead 25-9.

Lakeland would not let the Falcons fly away without scoring a series of runs in the top of the sixth and top of the seventh.

Concordia would take game one with a 25-13 victory over the Muskies.

Four Falcons pitched for game one, compared to Lakeland's eight pitchers.

Freshman Jack Hrribernik (Menomonee Falls, Wis.) started on the mound for the Falcons for the first two innings before freshman Ben Spiers (Waukesha, Wis.) would take over.

Spiers would take the victory for the mound.

Junior Zack Swift (Longwood, Fla.) would get his fair share on the mound for the Falcons.

Senior Kenny Meloy (Gilbert, Ariz.) would close the game for the two teams.

After a 3:14 hour game, the second game of the series would 30 minutes after.

The second game would run through quicker than the first.

The Muskies would score first in the top of the third with two runs.

Kalscheur would double through the left side in the bottom of the third to send Johnson home.

Gosswein would follow suit and double down left-field line to send Haakenson home.

Tillmon would join in with a singled down the right side and let Gosswein score.

The Muskies would secure their third and final run in the top of the fifth.

In the bottom of the fifth, Tillmon would send a sacrifice fly out to center field, Haakenson would score.

Largent would single down the left-field line to let Gosswein see home plate.

Johnson would single up the middle to send Kosobucki home.

The Falcons would go on another streak of runs in the bottom of the sixth, sending Haakenson, Zarling, and Gosswein home.

Kosobucki would send a ball over the fence to secure two more runs for the Falcons.

Chesak would score the final run of the sixth on a balk.

Tillmon would send the ball up the middle of the field to send Haakenson home to end the second game with a Falcon victory 13-3.

Only two pitchers saw the mound in the second game, with junior Ryan Green (Green Bay, Wis.) starting on the mound and securing the win for six innings.

Junior Zach Lutz (Hartford, Wis.) would close out the seventh inning for the Falcons, seeing only four batters in the top of the seventh.

The Blue and White travel to Benedictine for a single game match-up on Tuesday May 4 at 6 PM.
