Baseball gets back on track at Edgewood

VERONA, Wis. – The CUW baseball team got back on track on Sunday afternoon with a sweep at Edgewood. The Falcons grounded the Eagles, 12-11 and 10-0 to improve to 13-9 and 4-4 on the year.

Junior Sam Beers (Janesville, Wis.) started the scoring on Sunday with a sacrifice fly to score junior Johannes Haakenson (Janesville, Wis.) in the first inning. Junior Tristan Largent (Verona, Wis.) then singled to short stop to score junior Sean Tillmon.

Johannes Haakenson scored senior Drew Johnson (Menasha, Wis.) on a sacrifice fly in the second inning.

The Eagles took the lead with the next five runs in the game.

The Concordia offense exploded with six runs in the fourth inning. Highlighted by a single up the middle the scored junior Kyle Kosobucki (De Pere, Wis.) and Sean Tillmon.

Junior Jared Chesak (West Bend, Wis.) scored on an error in the eighth inning.

The Eagles retook the lead again in the bottom of the eighth inning with six runs.

Tristan Largent tied the game when he was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to get junior Daniel Hahn (Cudahy, Wis.) across home plate. Sam Beers later scored on a bases-loaded walk.

Senior Tyler Moilanen (Pleasant Prairie, Wis.) earned the victory and senior Kenny Meloy (Gilbert, Ariz.) came in in the ninth inning for the save.

The CUW bats stayed warm in game two and scored a run from the third inning on.

Johannes Haakenson landed the first punch in the third inning on a double down the left-field line to score Drew Johnson.

In the fourth inning, Drew Johnson singled to left field to send in Tristan Largent and senior Sam Zarling (West Bend, Wis.) knocked a double into the gap in right field to score Drew Johnson and senior Blake Gosswein (Barrington, Ill.).

The fifth inning saw Tristan Largent single through the left side to score Tillmon.

CUW added three more runs in the sixth inning, starting with a single to center field from Haakenson to send in Gosswein and Sean Tillmon had a single that scored Sam Beers and Johannes Haakenson.

The Falcons stretched the lead in the seventh when Daniel Hahn scored on a wild pitch and Sam Beers hit a sacrifice fly to score Blake Gosswein.

Freshman Jack Hribernik (Menomonee Falls, Wis.) made his first start on the mound and picked up his first victory with three strikeouts.

The Falcons will fly south to Illinois on Tuesday and take on Concordia Chicago.
