Falcons Cook Cougars in Record-Breaking Night

RIVER FOREST, Ill. – The CUW men's basketball team traveled to take on a heavily-depleted Concordia Chicago team on Monday evening.

The first half saw a close game with a halftime score of 35-29 in favor of the Falcons.  The Falcons were just 1-10 from deep and shot 4-11 from the free-throw line.  The Cougars held the lead for 67% of the first half.

The Falcons snapped out of it at halftime and went on a 24-8 run coming out of the locker room. 

Senior Garrett Hoffmann (Belgium, Wis.) led the Falcons out of the break with a layup, then a steal to an assist, then his fifth point with a deep ball, another assist, and his eighth point with a three-point basket as well as another assist all within the first four minutes of the second half.

With a rebound at the 15:56 mark of the second half, senior Jordan Johnson (Cedarburg, Wis.) broke the career rebounding record that was set by Andrew Fratzke in 2019.  Johnson went on to have five total rebounds as well as 23 points and two assists.

With 5:56 remaining, the Cougars called a timeout with the Falcons up 23 points after a layup from sophomore Freeman Jackson (Green Bay, Wis.) for his 10th point of the contest.

The Falcons finished the game with an 84-66 victory that saw 24 bench points led by Jackson with a career-high 12 and junior Grant Karsten (Decatur, Ill.) scoring seven.

Senior Brandon Keller (Plymouth, Wis.) recorded the 14th double-double of his career breaking the previous record of 13, another record set by Fratzke in 2019.  Keller scored 14 points and brought in 13 rebounds also adding one block, four steals, and two assists to his record. 

The Falcons look to build on this two-game win streak when they face MSOE on Wednesday.
