Men's Basketball Falls in NACC Semifinals

MILWAUKEE, Wis. – The Concordia Wisconsin men's basketball season came to an end on Friday night in the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC) Men's Basketball Tournament Semifinals. The 17th-ranked Warriors of Wisconsin Lutheran improved to 25-2 on the season with the 86-65 victory.

The Warriors jumped out to an early lead and never looked back.

Sophomore Casey Verhagen (Sheboygan, Wis.) was able to beat the buzzer as the Falcons went end to end after a steal to cut the halftime deficit to 23-45.

The Falcons trimmed the WLC lead to 17 points on two occasions with baskets from sophomore Matt Merlo (Random Lake, Wis.) and Casey Verhagen.

Casey Verhagen led the contest with 22 points.

Matt Merlo and junior Logan Landers (Cedarburg, Wis.) led the contest with each finishing with eight rebounds.

The senior class of Jonah Jurss (Sheboygan, Wis.), Zach Lahey (West Dundee, Ill.) and Adam Bruins (Oak Creek, Wis.) finish with 47 victories over the four seasons.

"Adam, Jonah, and Zach have been the model Concordia Student-Athletes, not just basketball players, with their commitment to CUW," said head coach Shawn Cassidy. "They are involved in the community, maintain a high GPA, and brought that strong work ethic to the court every day."

No. 17 Wisconsin Lutheran will host the Green Knights of St. Norbert on Sunday in the NACC Tournament Finals.

The Falcons finish the season at 15-12.
