Falcons Beat Benedictine With Big Second Half

MEQUON, Wis. – The men's basketball team took on the Benedictine Eagles in their final home game of the regular season. It was also a night of recognition for all of the program's seniors.

The first half started tight with a 12-9 score in favor of the Eagles just under halfway through the first half.

The Eagles hopped out to a 10-point lead halfway through the first half with a score of 25-15.

After a three-point basket from senior Garrett Hoffmann (Belgium, Wis.) along with nine points from senior Jordan Johnson (Cedarburg, Wis.) and a layup from senior Brandon Keller (Plymouth, Wis.) brought the Falcons to within five to end the half with a 39-34 score in favor of the Eagles going into halftime.

The Eagles started the half with a trio of baskets to claim an eight-point lead early in the half.

The Falcons didn't shy away from the competition with three three-point baskets to get back within two points at 57-59. Junior Grant Karsten (Decatur, Ill.), sophomore Freeman Jackson (Green Bay, Wis.), and Jordan Johnson knocked down the three baskets.

Johnson went on to score the next 25 of 27 Falcon points for the rest of the game.

With 4:23 left in the game, Jordan Johnson sunk an and-one basket and went to the line to try and convert the three-point play. With his made free-throw, he added another milestone to his bag. The free throw pushed him over the 2,000-career point hill.

Johnson managed this feat in 114 total games. The game had a couple more significant details for Johnson. With his 10th point early in the second half, Johnson recorded his 100th career double-digit scoring performance. With his start in this game, he recorded his 100th career start as well.

The Falcons also tied the program record on Saturday with four turnovers. The last time they pulled off that accomplishment was in November of 2003 against Trinity and nine days later at Lake Forest.

The Falcons finished with the 81-77 victory with two free throws from Hoffmann.

Johnson led all players with 34 total points as well as seven assists and two steals.

Keller led the Falcons with eight rebounds. He added 11 points and a block to his line.

The Falcons look to continue their win streak past five with a matchup at Edgewood next Saturday.
