Unanswered Goals Lift Falcons Past Badgers

ST. LOUIS, Mo. – The CUW ACHA team started their Division II Central Regional run on Saturday evening against the Badgers of Wisconsin.

The Badgers opened the game with two goals in the first and beginning of the second periods to claim a firm hold on the lead.

The Falcons netted four unanswered goals in the second period to take the 4-0 lead. Senior Scott Gregor (Ashland, Wis.) lit the lamp for the Falcons off assists from senior Lucas Hefty (Oregon, Wis.) and junior John Swiatek (Rochester, N.Y.). Senior Alex Way (Ottawa, Ont.) followed that up just over four minutes later with an assist from senior Sam Weiss (Glen Ellyn, Ill.). Senior Jacob Palmerio (Sault Ste. Marie, Ont.) recorded the third Falcon goal of the period.  He was assisted by sophomore Tommy Cassel (Grafton, Wis.) and junior Ian Malcolmson (Waukesha, Wis.).  Malcolmson then netted a powerplay goal with under one minute left in the second period to give the Blue and White the 4-2 lead.  Malcolmson was assisted by Way and senior Lucas Kreuser (Wisconsin Rapids, Wis.).

The Blue and White opened the final frame with their fifth goal just over four minutes into the period. 

Malcolmson added the fifth goal for the birds off a pass from senior Michael Fradette (Victoria, B.C.). 

Palmerio ended the Falcon scoring with assists from Malcolmson and Weiss to finish off the Badgers with six unanswered goals and a 6-2 final score.

The Falcons advance to play Minnesota on Saturday afternoon for the opportunity at a spot in the Division II National Tournament.
