Falcons Sweep Series Against Wisconsin

MADISON, Wis. – The CUW ACHA team finished their weekend series with Wisconsin off with a bang on Saturday afternoon.  The 11 am matchup saw a 9-5 final score with the Falcons sitting victoriously on top.

The Blue and White dominated the first period with five goals in the period as opposed to the zero goals from Bucky's Badgers.

Senior Trenton Sherman (Farmington, Minn.) netted the first Falcon goal in the eighth minute with assists from senior Easton Williams (Racine, Wis.) and sophomore Tommy Cassel (Grafton, Wis.).  Senior Sam Weiss (Glen Ellyn, Ill.) added the second goal to the Falcon total in the 11th minute off the stick of senior Alex Way (Ottawa, Ont.).  Way netted the third goal of the contest in the 15th minute on a powerplay.  It was the lone powerplay goal of the matchup.  Sophomore Nolan Judge (Glendale, Ariz.) found junior Ian Malcolmson (Waukesha, Wis.) just 38 seconds later to put the Blue and White up by four goals.  Seniors Wyatt Wilderman (Bear Dance, Mont.) and Jacob Palmerio (Sault Ste. Marie, Ont.) assisted sophomore Garrett Wilderman (Waukesha, Wis.) with 13 seconds left in the first period to cap off a five-goal frame.

Only two total goals fell in the second period with the Badgers netting the first in the 16th minute and Way netting the sixth Falcon goal of the matchup with 54 seconds remaining in the second period to hold the five-goal lead at 6-1.

The Badgers won the third period, but it wasn't enough to overcome their deficit with four goals to the Falcon's three.

Sherman netted his second goal of the matchup in the second minute of the final frame off assists from Cassel and senior Lucas Kreuser (Wisconsin Rapids, Wis.).  Wyatt Wilderman netted his first goal of the matchup, as well as his second point with an earlier assist, to push the game even further out at 8-2.  Junior John Swiatek (Rochester, N.Y.) dropped the final Falcon goal in the 14th minute of the third period to finish off the Badgers 9-5.

The Falcons improved to 4-2 in Big 10 matchups and 9-4 on the season with the 2-0 weekend against Madison.

The Falcons look to dominate the Wisconsin hockey circuit with a home and home against Marquette next Friday and Saturday.
