Falcons Crush Cardinals in the Clash of the Concordias

MEQUON, Wis. - The CUW ACHA hockey team took on the Cardinals of Concordia Ann Arbor inside the Ozaukee Ice Center on Friday night.  This was the first meeting of the two programs in the team's history.

The Falcons were relentless in the weekend opener with a final score of 9-0.

The Blue and White finished the first period after three goals to open the matchup.  Senior Jacob Palmerio (Sault St. Marie, Ont.) lit the lamp for the Falcons with a goal in the sixth minute with assists from senior Sam Weiss (Glen Ellyn, Ill.) and junior Ian Malcolmson (Waukesha, Wis.).  Just under two minutes later, senior Rex Staudacher (Yorkville, Ill.) slid one past the netminder for his first goal of the matchup.  Senior Alex Way (Ottawa, Ont.) netted his first of the matchup with eight seconds left in the first period with assists from Staudacher and senior Lucas Kreuser (Wisconsin Rapids, Wis.).

The Falcons netted a powerplay goal in the ninth minute of the second period off the stick of sophomore Garrett Wilderman (Waukesha, Wis.).  Wilderman was assisted by Palmerio and Weiss. Palmerio went on to score a shorthanded goal in the 15th minute unassisted and untouched through both the neutral zone and the Falcon attacking third.  Palmerio netted yet another goal with 49 seconds remaining in the second period off an assist from Weiss to push the game well out of reach at 6-0.

The Falcons found the perfect storm in the third period with three more goals added to the total to finish the matchup with the 9-0 shutout victory.  Way netted the first goal of the period.  He then assisted, as well as senior Thomas Dyball (Papillion, Neb.), on the second of the period that was scored by Kreuser.  Way had a hand in all three of the Falcon goals in the third period with another goal in the 13th minute of the final frame.  He was assisted by Kreuser and sophomore Tommy Cassel (Grafton, Wis.).

Senior Mack Willy (Tacoma, Wash.) recorded his first shutout of the young season with 25 saves.

Both Way and Palmerio led the Blue and White with four total points.  Both recorded a hat trick as well as one assist.

The flock has now outscored their opponents 33-5 while on home ice.

The Falcons look to remain undefeated inside the Ozaukee Ice Center with game two of the weekend matchup against Concordia Ann Arbor.
