Falcons Slash Spartans in Series Opener

AURORA, Ill. - The CUW ACHA team traveled to Aurora for a matinee hockey matchup with the Spartans on Friday afternoon.

The Falcons unleashed a battery of goals in the first period, ending in a 4-0 advantage for the Blue and White.

The first Falcon goal came just 56 seconds into the matchup off the stick of senior Sam Weiss (Glen Ellyn, Ill.).  Weiss was assisted by seniors Rex Staudacher (Yorkville, Ill.) and Thomas Dyball (Papillion, Neb.).

Senior Alex Way (Ottawa, Ont.) recorded the second goal for the Blue and White off a pass from Weiss in the fifth minute.  Just 15 seconds later, junior Ian Malcolmson (Waukesha, Wis.) netted an unassisted goal to put the Falcons us 3-0.

With three minutes remaining in the first period, sophomore Tommy Cassel (Grafton, Wis.) recorded the fourth Falcon goal of the afternoon off assists from Malcolmson and senior Jacob Palmerio (Sault Ste. Marie, Ont.).

The second period saw about the same action with three goals for the Blue and White and none for the Spartans.

Senior Trenton Sherman (Farmington, Minn.) recorded the first goal of the second period off an assist from senior Wyatt Wilderman (Bear Dance, Mont.).

Senior Scott Gregor (Ashland, Wis.) got in on the scoring action with three and a half minutes left in the second period with assists from Cassel and Malcolmson.

Sherman scored his second goal of the afternoon with 18 seconds left in the second period to take the 7-0 lead.

Palmerio recorded the eighth and final Falcon goal in the third period with an assist from senior Michael Fradette (Victoria, B.C.).

Senior Mack Willy (Tacoma Wash.) recorded 35 saves.

The Blue and Whitehead home and will look to complete the series sweep inside the Ozaukee Ice Center on Saturday night.
