Falcons Sweep Series Against Cardinals

MEQUON, Wis. - The CUW ACHA team completed their series sweep of the Concordia Ann Arbor Cardinals on Saturday night and improved to 4-1 on Saturdays and 7-4 on the season.

The Falcons finished their Saturday matchup with a final score of 13-1 which gave them a 46-6 advantage over opponents inside the Ozaukee Ice Center.

The Blue and White netted five goals in the first period with senior Lucas Kreuser (Wisconsin Rapids, Wis.) recording the first Falcon goal of the night.  Senior Alex Way (Ottawa, Ont.) and junior Jeff Coffin (Saint Paul, Minn.) recorded assists on the first goal.  The second goal was scored by junior John Swiatek (Rochester, N.Y.) with assists from seniors Scott Gregor (Ashland, Wis.) and Thomas Dyball (Papillion, Neb.).  Senior Lucas Hefty (Oregon, Wis.) netted his first goal of the match with an assist from Dyball who recorded his second point with the assist.  Kreuser netted his second Falcon goal of the period in the eighth minute of the matchup with an assist from senior Wyatt Wilderman (Bear Dance, Mont.).  The final Falcon goal of the period came off the stick of Gregor with assists from Swiatek and sophomore Garrett Wilderman (Waukesha, Wis.).

The Cardinals netted their only goal of the period in the 14th minute of action.

It seemed like the Falcons had scored enough goals for the matchup, but they scored six more in the second period and added two in the third.  Hefty got the second period rolling with a bang in the second minute when he slid one past the netminder with an assist from senior Sam Weiss (Glen Ellyn, Ill.).  The first goal was scored on a power play.  The second goal of the period also came on the powerplay, but this time from Gregor with assists from Weiss and senior Jacob Palmerio (Sault St. Marie, Ont.).  Kreuser was the first Falcon with a hat trick with his third goal coming in the 10th minute of the second period.  He was assisted by Way as well as sophomore Tommy Cassel (Grafton, Wis.).  Weiss netted his first goal of the matchup off an assist from Dyball and junior Ian Malcolmson (Waukesha, Wis.).

It feels like a broken record to say that the Falcons scored, but it happened four more times so stick with it.

Palmerio netted the 10th goal of the matchup off an assist from Weiss for Palmerio's first goal of the matchup.  Way netted the final Falcon goal of the second period with an assist from senior Rex Staudacher (Yorkville, Ill.).

The Falcons headed into the final frame with an obscene 11-1 lead.

Alex Way went on a tear in the third period with both of the goals in the period.  The first was assisted by Malcolmson and the second was assisted by Staudacher.

Alex Way finished with the last three Falcon goals for the second Falcon hat trick and his second of the series.

The Falcons take on their third Big 10 school of the season when Wisconsin comes to town for the first half of a home and home on Friday.
