Falcons Blow Flyers out of the Sky on Friday

MEQUON, Wis. – The CUW ACHA team opened not only the home portion of their schedule but also the conference portion of their schedule inside the Ozaukee Ice Center on Friday night against the Lewis Flyers.

The Flyers got the puck rolling in the sixth minute with the first goal of the matchup.

The Falcons rattled off six goals which spanned the first and half of the second periods to shut down the Flyers. The first Falcon goal was scored by senior Alex Way (Ottawa, Ont.) with an assist from fellow senior Easton Williams (Racine, Wis.). Just over three minutes later, sophomore Tommy Cassel (Grafton, Wis.) netted the second Falcon goal off of a feed from seniors Trenton Sherman (Farmington, Minn.) and Wyatt Wilderman (Bear Dance, Mont.). Senior Scott Gregor (Ashland, Wis.) netted his first goal of the game off of a feed from junior Ian Malcolmson (Waukesha, Wis.) in the 17th minute of the first period.

The Blue and White went into the first intermission with a 3-1 lead and were eyeing more.

The flock came out hot in the second period with three goals in the first 15 minutes of play.

Junior John Swiatek (Rochester, N.Y.) netted the first goal of the period in the fourth minute with assists from junior Michael Fradette (Victoria, B.C.) and senior Connor Doyle (Naples, Fla.). The Blue and White kept the train moving in the 11th minute off the stick of senior Lucas Kreuser (Wisconsin Rapids, Wis.). Kreuser was assisted by fellow senior Rex Staudacher (Yorkville, Ill.). 

Way netted his second goal of the game on a powerplay after a lead feed from Malcolmson.  

Lewis netted their second goal of the matchup in the 16th minute of the second period but was overwhelmed by six more goals from the Blue and White.

Malcolmson connected with sophomore Garrett Wilderman (Waukesha, Wis.) and senior Thomas Dyball (Papillion, Neb.) for the seventh Falcon goal of the game and the first goal of the third period.

Junior Nick Roberts (Milwaukee, Wis.) scored an unassisted goal in the second minute of the third period with a coast-to-coast goal. Senior Sam Weiss (Glen Ellyn, Ill.) netted his first goal of the matchup in the sixth minute of the third period with assists from Way and Kreuser. Gregor netted the 10th Falcon goal and his second of the matchup with assists coming from Garrett Wilderman and Malcolmson.  

Senior Jacob Palmerio (Sault St. Marie, Ont.) slammed his first goal past the netminder in the tenth minute of the third period with assists from Cassel and Sherman. The final Falcon goal, and the 12th, was scored by Malcolmson with an assist from Garrett Wilderman.

Malcolmson led the flock with an astonishing four points on two goals and two assists.  

Senior Ian Robertson (Calgary, Alta.) recorded 18 saves in the contest.

The Falcons look to add more goals to their season total after blowing the Flyers out of the air on Friday night with another matchup against Lewis inside the Ozaukee Ice Center on Saturday afternoon.
