Men’s Track and Field Boasts a Strong Season

MEQUON, Wis. – The CUW men's track and field team ended their season at the NACC Outdoor Championships held at Wisconsin Lutheran College.

The Falcons kicked off the indoor season at a high with a second-place finish at the Oshkosh Early Bird Invitational. The bulk of the Falcon team points was earned by the Falcon throwers squad. Looking at the numbers 34 of the 67 Falcon points were earned by the throws crew. Senior Gideon Cain (Cedarburg, Wis.) started his season off strong by breaking his own record in the shot put with a throw of 16.07 meters. Cain smashed his old record by close to a whole meter. Cain claimed another first-place finish in the weight throw along with Freshman Michell Moeller (Cedarburg, Wis.) taking fourth place in the shot put with a throw of 11.39 meters. Freshman Rashad Shaw (Gary, Ind.) took fifth place in shot earning four team points. Junior Theodore Ryder (Denver, Colo.) earned sixth place and seventh place in the shot put and weight throw.

Gideon Cain was named Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC) Indoor Track and Field Men's Student-Athlete of the week for the week of Dec. 6-12, 2021.

Tim Brey was named Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC) Indoor Track and Field Men's Student-Athlete of the week for the week of Jan. 10-16, 2021.

The Ripon Red Hawks Open was a high and stiff competition field with a range of athletes and teams from the Big Ten Conference and other NCAA Division I and NAIA Athletes. With the tough competition head coach, Russ De Lap thought the Falcons rose to the occasion and competed hard. Big performances included sophomore Tim Brey (Cedarburg, Wis.) with a first-place finish in the 5000-meter run. Brey ran a time of 15:34.91. The 4x200 team of junior Easton Becker (Ankeny, Iowa), senior Christian Prohl (Downers Grove, Ill.), Tim Brey and Freshman Nate Waech (West Bend, Wis.) clocked in a time of 1:35.20 taking a second-place finish. Gideon Cain led all NCAA Division III athletes in the weight throw and the shot put with 15.29 meters and 15.15 meters throws. Freshman Jacob Couillard (Kingsford, Mich.) jumped 1.77 meters in the high jump earning him the best of the Falcons in this event.

The Falcons as a team closed their indoor season at the NACC Indoor Championships held at Ripon, Wis. Day one brought the Falcons home with one medal and big performances that earned the team points. Gideon Cain added to his medal collection with a career-best mark of 17.22 meters in the weight throw to secure a first-place individual medal. Adding to the team points was Tim Brey with a fourth-place finish in the 5000-meter run, the distance medley relay team of senior William Ebel (Macomb, Mich.), Christian Prohl, Easton Becker, and freshman Dominic Willadsen (Sheboygan, Wis.) with a fifth-place finish, and Nate Waech with an eighth-place finish in the Pole Vault. Sophomore Jacob Kelm (Cedarburg, Wis.) qualified for the 60-meter hurdles final. The Falcons finished the two-day competition with two-medal finishes. Tim Brey clocked in a time of 8:54.16 to earn a silver medal in the 3000-meter run. Gideon Cain ended the weekend with his second gold medal of the weekend in the shot put with a 15.97 meters mark.

Gideon Cain represented CUW at the NCAA Division III Men's Track and Field Championships in the shot put. Cain earned All-American Honors with an eighth-place finish in the shot put with his best throw of 15.48 meters.

The outdoor season for the Falcons was in full swing with a team first place win at the WLC Green and White Invite. The hardware was brought back to campus with an added six individual champion performances. Gideon Cain completed the golden sweep with a throw of 44.75 meters in the discus, 15.11 meters in the shot put, and a 51.30 meters throw breaking his own school record in the weight throw. Jacob Kelm took the gold in the 110-meter hurdles. Sophomore Austin Thur (Bloomer, Wis.) recorded a champion jump of a 6.31-meter. Easton Becker had the last crown of the Falcons in the 800-meter with a clocked time of 2:03.52.

Gideon Cain was named Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC) Outdoor Track and Field Men's Field Athlete of the week for the week of April 25 – May 1, 2022.

The Falcons closed their outdoor season with the NACC Outdoor Championships hosted by Wisconsin Lutheran College. Day one ended with two medals and qualified six runners for the Saturday finals. Junior Seth Day (Sunset Hills, Mo.) defended his title in the Javelin with a mark of 48.21 meters. Mitchell Moeller claimed the silver medal in the discus throw with a mark of 45.02 meters. The 110-meter hurdles duo of Jacob Kelm and freshman Bernie Van Den Huevel (Valders, Wis.) qualified for the finals. Kelm also qualified for the 400-meter hurdles finals. Christian Prohl qualified for the 400-meter dash and 200-meter dash finals. Easton Becker finished as a qualifier for the 800-meter run finals. After a strong day, one the Falcons returned and closed day two with three victories and collected a total of nine medals. Gideon Cain defended his crown in the shot put with a winning mark of 15.50 meters and threw 49.79 meters in the hammer throw for another first-place win. Christian Prohl earned the silver medal in the 400-meter dash. Jacob Kelm earned two silver medals with two huge performances in the 110-meter hurdles and the 400-meter hurdles. Easton Becker clocked a massive personal best of 1:56.47 to bring home the bronze medal in the 800-meter run. Rounding out the medals was the 4x100 meter team of sophomore Robert Taylor (Miami, Fla.), freshman Zac Ballard (Paramount, Calif.), junior Konnor Kingsmore (Colorado Springs, Colo.) and Christian Prohl with a posted time of 43.50 to bring home the bronze medal.

Gideon Cain was named Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC) Outdoor Track and Field Men's Field Athlete of the week for the final of the 2021-2022 season.

The CUW men's track and field team will return for the next season in November.
