Men's Track & Field Takes Fourth at WLC Green & White Invite

MEQUON, Wis. - The Falcons and CUW men's track and field traveled to Wisconsin Lutheran College on Saturday to compete in the Green & White Invite. At the same time, freshman Zach Wendland (Green Bay, Wis.) wrapped up the pentathlon at the Augustana Meet of Champions.

Wendland finished 12th out of 28 competitors with a combined score of 5,557 points.

Zach Wendland completed the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 16.99 seconds, which added 625 points while recording a mark of 25.34 meters in the discus. Wendland also cleared a height of 3.10 meters in the pole vault and 41.01 meters in the javelin before completing his day by running a 4:44.79 in the 1500-meter race.

Meanwhile, in Milwaukee, the Falcons took fourth place with 77.5 points, while Division II UW-Parkside recorded 146 points for a convincing victory.

In the 100-meter dash, Se'Korrey Thomas (Punta Gorda, Fla.) led the Falcons with a time of 11.67 seconds, while fellow freshman Ian Brown (Wheaton, Ill.) led the Blue and White with a time of 26.66 seconds in the 200-meter dash.

Freshman Riley Johnson (Cedar Lake, Ind.) recorded a time of 2:12.50, which led CUW in the 800-meter race.

The distance events would see senior Timmy Brey (Cedarburg, Wis.) continue his excellent season with a third-place finish in the 5,000-meter as he ran a 15:09.99, contributing six points to CUW's total.

CUW also had two athletes finish in the top four as junior Bernie Van Den Heuvel (Valders, Wis.) took second overall with a time of 16.24 seconds, while sophomore Brandon Donahue (Hubertus, Wis.) was close behind with a fourth-place finish at 17.07 seconds. Together, the duo earned 13 points.

The hurdles continued to tally on points for Concordia as freshman Josh Sipes (Charleston, Ill.) took third and gave CUW six points with his third-place finish as he completed the 400-meter hurdle race at 1:01.24. In eighth was freshman Luke Witte (Monroe, Mich.) as he crossed the finish line with a time of 1:07.33, good for one point.

In the 4x100-meter relay, CUW earned four points. The team, comprised of sophomore Mason Knueppel (Jackson, Wis.), sophomore Nick Taylor (West Bend, Wis.), Josh Sipes, and Bernie Van Den Heuvel, teamed up for a time of 46.46, earning the Blue and White fifth overall.

In the high jump, junior Jacob Couillard (Kingsford, Mich.) recorded a distance of 1.53 meters, which tied with an athlete from Wisconsin Lutheran for a sixth-place finish and 2.50 points. Meanwhile, freshman Aaron Klug (Arlington, Va.) took sixth in the triple jump with a team-best leap of 11.40 meters.

In the throws pit, senior Seth Day (Sunset Hills, Mo.) took third with a throw of 11.96 meters, which earned CUW eight team points. Day also led the Falcons in the discus and earned five points, as he threw 37.27 meters.

However, Seth Day's best performance came in the javelin. The reigning NACC champion finished second in the event with a throw of 45.79 meters.

In total, Day collected 21 points individually.

Sophomore John Kutner (Muskego, Wis.) had a breakout performance in the hammer throw, as he took silver with a throw of 40.75 meters, which collected CUW eight team points.

CUW will compete next weekend in the St. Norbert Invitational, a warm-up to the following weekend's NACC Outdoor Track & Field Championships hosted by Wisconsin Lutheran.
