Gideon Cain Qualifies for NCAA Indoor Championships

MEQUON, Wis. – The National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) announced its qualifiers for the 2022 NCAA Division III Indoor Track & Field Championships on Sunday night.

Senior Gideon Cain from Cedarburg, Wisconsin, qualified for the shot put at the championships.

"Qualifying for the NCAA Championships is an awesome opportunity," said Cain. "As a freshman, I set the goal to go to nationals and to see it come to fruition is a blessing. I am excited for the chance to compete and glorify God with what he has blessed me with."

Cain punched his ticket with a career-best and program-best mark of 16.45 meters.

He currently holds the eighth-best mark in NCAA Division III.

This will be the first NCAA Division III Indoor Track & Field Championships held since 2019 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

This is Cain's second national appearance. Due to the 2021 indoor championships cancelation, he competed in the Division III Elite Championships in Waverly, Iowa. Cain finished in seventh place in the shot put with a school-record mark of 15.11 meters.

Gideon Cain is the first Falcon to represent CUW in the NCAA Division III Men's Indoor Track & Field Championships since Tyler White qualified for the triple jump in 2016.

Five of the top-10 shot put performances reside in the state of Wisconsin with representatives from Wisconsin-Stout, Carthage, Wisconsin-Eau Claire and Carroll. Kevin Ruechel of Stout has the best mark of the year by over a full meter at 18.83 meters.

The NCAA Division III Championships will be held on March 11-12 at the JDL Fast Track in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.
