Balanced attack leads Men’s Basketball to victory

MEQUON, Wis. - Concordia University Wisconsin used a balanced offensive attack, and went to the paint early and often, en route to a 74-46 victory over Maranatha Baptist Bible College during Northern Athletics Conference play on Thursday night inside the R. John Buuck Field House.

CUW used its size to score 50 points in the paint, its second highest total of the season. Overall, the Falcons had 14 players score in the game and no player scored in double-figures.

Senior Matt Paluchniak directed the offense with a game-high eight assists, while committing no turnovers. It was the Oostburg, Wis., native's first game this season without a miscue. During the past seven games he has recorded 57 assists compared to 13 turnovers.

Senior Erik Condia (Orange, Calif.) and freshman Ben Brooke (Viroqua, Wis.) scored a team-high nine points apiece, respectively, while Paluchniak added eight points and stole three passes. Junior Steve Zielinski (Brown Deer, Wis.) finished with eight points and three rebounds, while senior Luke Doedens finished with six points and five rebounds.

The Falcons bench finished with a 38-24 advantage, 13-9 lead in second chance points and a 12-0 advantage in fast break points.

Caleb Burch led all scorers with 12 points, while Brett Cashner added eight points for MBBC (2-15, 0-12 NAC). Aaron Oberholtzer chipped in six points and four points off the bench.

CUW returns to action at home on Wednesday at 7 p.m. to conclude a three-game homestand against Lakeland College.
