The Falcons dropped a hard fought NAC contest, 66-65, on Saturday at Benedictine University. CUW (5-2, 2-1 NAC) led by double-digits in the first and second half, but three free throw misses in the final minute were a portion of the difference. The loss snapped a 20-game conference winning streak and was the first defeat in the NAC since Feb. 13, 2010.
Seniors Luke Doedens (Cedarburg, Wis.) and Mitchell Schneider (New Holstein, Wis.) lead the team with 18.3 and 16.6 points per game, respectively. Schneider leads all rebounders with 5.4 per game and senior Matt Paluchniak (Oostburg, Wis.) has assisted on 29 field goals.
The Sabres (2-4, 0-2 NAC) have dropped their first two NAC games this season by a combined 10 points. Most recently, MU fell to Rockford College, 85-84, on a free throw with 2.6 seconds remaining despite Cody Veleke scoring a career-high 31 points last Saturday.
MU enters with a balanced scoring attack, as four players average in double-figures. Veleke leads the team with an 18.8 points per game average on 67.2 percent from the field. He also is averaging a team-best 7.5 rebounds per game and has blocked five shots.
The Falcons conclude the week with a Saturday matinee against Aurora University at 4:15 p.m. inside the R. John Buuck Field House.
