Doedens reaches career milestone, Men’s Basketball wins on the road

WATERTOWN, Wis. - Concordia University Wisconsin's men's basketball team used a balanced scoring attack and Luke Doedens reached a career milestone on Saturday afternoon as the Falcons earned a 71-45 victory at Maranatha Baptist Bible College.

The senior guard needed just one point to reach the coveted 1,000-point milestone and it took him until the second half to do so. The Cedarburg, Wis., native reached the the foul line with 14:38 to play in the contest calmly knocked down the first of two free throws to score his first point of the game and join the highly sought-after club.

Overall, the Falcons had 13 players score in the victory and ran out to a 22-point lead in the opening half behind 10 fast break points. CUW finished with a 27-10 advantage in points off turnovers, 40-28 lead in points in the paint and a 39-24 difference in bench production.

Senior Mitchell Schneider (New Holstein, Wis.) led all scorers with 15 points on 5-of-9 shooting from the field. He also grabbed four rebounds, stole three passes and blocked a game-high three field goal attempts for the Falcons.

Senior Zach Neumann (Colgate, Wis.) and freshman Malcolm Bowers (Germantown, Wis.) added nine and eight points, respectively, for CUW (18-5, 13-2 NAC). Doedens concluded the victory with three points and a game-high seven rebounds.

Joel Borchardt and Caleb Burch led MBBC (4-18, 0-15 NAC) with 10 points apiece. Borchardt hauled in a team-best six rebounds, while Kyle Kutz recorded five points and five rebounds.

CUW used its speed and athleticism to build a 20-plus point lead with 2:06 to play in the opening stanza. The Falcons maintained at least a double-digit lead 32 minutes in the victory.

Head coach Shawn Cassidy cleared his bench towards the end of the opening period and did so throughout the final 20 minutes of the game.

The victory was the sixth straight in conference play for CUW. The Falcons are now 9-3 on the road.

CUW returns to action on Tuesday against rival Edgewood College at 7 p.m. inside the R. John Buuck Field House. With a victory the Falcons can claim the NAC North Division title outright.
