Carroll's first half run defeats Men’s Basketball

WAUKESHA, Wis. -- Carroll University brought a 2-4 record into Saturday afternoon's home matchup with Concordia University Wisconsin, but the host Pioneers were clearly the better team from start to finish on this day as they defeated the Falcons 81-65 in a non-conference matchup.

Things started out innocently enough with CUW holding a 17-16 with 9:39 remaining in the first half. Carroll went on an incredible 29-8 run over the next nine minutes, however, working around the Falcons pressure for easy looks while holding Shawn Cassidy's team to just three baskets during the nightmarish stretch. CUW trailed 46-24 at the break.

Concordia (7-3) never got closer than 14 points in the second half and that deficit slice (77-63) came in the final minute of the contest.

CUW was only 4-of-18 on 3-point attempts for the game, with starters managing just 2-of-12 from distance. Carroll, on the other hand, hit 8-of-14 3-point efforts.

Over the entire 40 minutes, CUW was out shot 54 percent to 46 percent and outrebounded 38-27 by the Pioneers.

CUW had an especially tough time handling Carroll's Alec Molter who was 8-for-12 from the floor and hauled in nine rebounds. Three other Pioneers finished in double figures.

Senior Mitchell Schneider (New Holstein, Wis.) was the lone Falcon to reach double figures with 12 points and no CUW player had more than four rebounds.

Cassidy's team will not be in action again until Dec. 29 when the Falcons compete against UW-Oshkosh in a non-conference game that will be played at Wisconsin Dells.
