Men’s Basketball cruises to non-conference win over Silver Lake

MEQUON, Wis. - A first half sharpshooting display by Luke Doedens propelled the Concordia University Wisconsin men's basketball team to a 103-51 non-conference victory over Silver Lake College on Thursday night inside the R. John Buuck Field House.

The Falcons offense started slowly - not scoring their first field goal until 2:49 had elapsed - before the flood gates opened with a 24-7 run over a six-plus minute span. During the run Luke Doedens knocked down four-straight 3-pointers before missing once, and then nailing two more. It was the second time this season the guard has made seven triples.

CUW (5-1) kept the gas pedal to the floor and took a 25-point lead, 49-24, into the locker room at halftime. After the intermission the Falcon bench took over and controlled the second half, pushing the lead to as many as 54 points, and scored 58 points to the victory.

Luke Doedens (Cedarburg, Wis.) led all players with 25 points on 7-of-10 shooting from downtown. Schneider (New Holstein, Wis.) finished with 14 points, five rebounds and four assists for the Falcons. Senior Nick Doedens (Germantown, Wis.), senior Zach Neumann (Colgate, Wis.) and freshman Ben Brooke (Viroqua, Wis.) each scored 10 points. Senior Matt Paluchniak (Oostburg, Wis.) also assisted on five field goals.

SLC (1-7) was led by Shaun Hall's 15 points, which he scored off the bench on 5-of-10 shooting. Zak Zablocki recorded nine points and eight rebounds.

The Falcon offense was the highlight of the night reaching 100 points for the first time since Nov. 19, 2010 which was a 100-82 win over Dubuque University. Their defense was also superb in the win holding the Lakers to 30 percent from the field and forcing 21 turnovers. In the second half CUW held SLC to 24.2 percent on 8-of-33 shooting.

The Lakers 21 errors were converted into 29 points by the Falcons. CUW also outscored LSC 46-26 in the paint and shot 61.5 percent -- the second straight game shooting over 60 percent.

With nearly 10 minutes remaining in the game CUW's starters gave way to the bench and every player on the roster played at least five minutes. A trio of Falcons recorded their first career points - freshman Tim Hendricks (Mundelein, Ill.), freshman Josh Horness (Sheboygan, Wis.) and freshman Garrett Wenzelburger (Hartland, Wis.) - after freshman Malcolm Bowers (Germantown, Wis.) scored his first career point during Tuesday's victory.

CUW returns to Northern Athletics Conference action on Saturday at Benedictine University at 4:30 p.m. The game is the second part of a doubleheader with the women's program which tips off at 2 p.m.
