Falcons Battle in the NACC Title Match

AURORA, Ill. – The Falcons overcame many obstacles on Saturday night, but they had their comeback fall short in a 3-1 loss to Aurora. The Spartans secured the victory with a 25-20, 25-23, 19-25, 25-22 victory.

The Spartans took the first set with a 25-20 victory to start the evening.

Aurora took the second set with a 25-23 victory on what was called an attack error at the net.

The Falcons did not fold and controlled a majority of the third set and forced a fourth set with a 25-19 victory.

In a tight fourth set, the Spartans surged after a called service ace and closed the set on a 7-3 run to clinch the match at 25-22.

Freshman Lauren Shroba (Bolingbrook, Ill.) led the flock with 12 kills on Saturday.

Sophomore Maycee Karpfinger (Wauwatosa, Wis.) recorded a double-double performance with 14 digs and 10 kills. She also finished with four blocks.

Senior Makenzie Vertz (Mukwonago, Wis.) led the Falcons with 31 assists. Junior Sierra Lee (Kenosha, Wis.) had 22 assists, 13 digs and a team-high three service aces for a double-double performance.

Senior Sophia Collins (Lake Mills, Wis.) also reached double-digit kills with 10.

The Falcons have a 23-5 record and will have to see if they earned an at-large bid for the NCAA Division III Tournament.
