Women’s Volleyball Splits Pair at Whitewater

WHITEWATER, Wis. – The Falcons women's volleyball team split a pair of non-conference matches against No. 11 Whitewater and North Central.

The Falcons saw ups and downs in the first match against No. 11 Whitewater.  They were led by junior Hannah Himmelman (Geneseo, Ill.) out of the middle hitting .263 on 19 attempts.  She was followed closely by senior Gabrielle Pavlik (Pewaukee, Wis.) hitting .227 on 22 swings. 

Senior libero Madelyn Alton (Farwell, Minn.) recorded 25 digs on the match adding five assists.

Of the 44 assists, 38 came from the setter duo of senior Makenzie Vertz (Mukwonago, Wis.) and junior Sierra Lee (Kenosha, Wis.).  Both setters tallied 19 assists.

The Falcons came out of their timeout late in the third set with a big kill from Hannah Himmelman that ended up getting them to the win in the third set.

The Falcon defense recorded 64 digs and eight blocking assists on the night.  The blocking effort was led by sophomore Maycee Karpfinger (Wauwatosa, Wis.) recording three bloc assists in the four sets.

In the second match, the Falcons never looked back putting up a three-set sweep of the North Central Cardinals.

The match would see a huge effort from freshman Lauren Shroba (Bolingbrook, Ill.) putting up a .227 hitting percentage on 22 swings leading the team in attempts.  On top of her 22 swings, Shroba brought in 12 digs and two blocking assists to give her a packed stat line. 

Junior Gabriella Kaebisch (Paddock Lake, Wis.) led the Falcon scoring in the match with 10.5 total points registering seven kills on 11 swings (.545), two solo blocks, and three block assists. 

The Falcons would sweep the Cardinals with set scores of 25-22, 25-11, and 26-24.

For their efforts, Lauren Shroba and Gabrielle Pavlik were named to the UWW All-Tournament Team. 

The Blue and White return to the R. John Buuck Fieldhouse to take on the Inferno of Alverno on Tuesday.
