Falcons Silence Alverno

MEQUON, Wis. – The CUW women's volleyball team made quick work of Alverno on Tuesday night in the NACC home opener for the Falcons. CUW swept away the Inferno with a 25-13, 25-7, 25-15 victory to improve to 5-3 and 1-1 in NACC play.

The Falcons came out swinging against Alverno and hit a blistering .440 in the first set against the Inferno. Senior Sophia Collins (Lake Mills, Wis.) led the flock in the first set with four kills. Sophomore Maycee Karpfinger (Wauwatosa, Wis.) hit .750 in the set with three kills.

The Blue and White cruised in the second set and held Alverno to a -.179 hitting percentage in the set, where CUW picked up a 25-7 victory. Junior Jenna Chaussee (Chilton, Wis.) sliced the Alverno defense in the set with five kills and a service ace.

Alverno put up a fight and led early in the third set, but the Falcons proved to be too much to handle on Wednesday. Freshman Lauren Shroba (Bolingbrook, Ill.) secured eight kills to extinguish the Inferno.

Lauren Shroba led all players with 12 kills in the victory. The freshman also picked up an ace.

CUW was able to get 16 players into the match on Tuesday evening. The Falcons had eight players pick up an assist; senior Ericka Christiansen (Morton Grove, Ill.) led the match with 10.

The Concordia serve gave Alverno issues all night long. CUW ended with nine service aces, junior Sierra Lee (Kenosha, Wis.) landed three aces and Jenna Chaussee secured two.

The back row was not letting balls drop on Tuesday and picked up 45 digs from 12 different Falcons. Freshman Emma Essex (Hoffman Estates, Ill.) gobbled up a team-high eight digs in the victory.

The Falcons return to action on Friday at Wisconsin – Whitewater to take on Minnesota's St. Mary's.
